How students should use this module

1

Read the lab introduction

Review pteridine and ommochrome pathways, transporter genes, eye-color mutants, and epistasis.

2

Score F₂ flies

Observe your vial, identify sex and phenotypes, record data, then discard the vial as instructed.

3

Set up the TLC experiment

Work in groups, collect five eye-color phenotypes, extract pigments, spot the TLC plate, and run the chromatography.

4

Use the Pigment Pathway Simulator

Create the assigned genotypes and connect pigment presence or absence to eye color phenotypes.

5

Submit the assignment

Complete Assignment #5 and submit a physical copy or scanned PDF through Canvas.
